Demand Ignition works with asset managers that run lean intermediary distribution teams. Most of those firms already allocate budget for a public site, a CMS, and often a self-service tool for advisors. Advisors do visit those sites occasionally. The useful test is simpler than a traffic report: when an advisor lands on a manager's site, can they finish something that helps them place or keep a ticket?

Large managers still dominate advisors' estimation of strong websites. Product pages load cleanly. Tools are easy to find. Education is not buried three clicks deep. A boutique or growth-stage firm does not need to match that build budget. But it does need to deliver on the reason the advisor showed up.

**What advisors come to finish**

They are rarely there for a brand narrative. They want a fact sheet, a short market view, a portfolio tool that accepts their holdings, or education they can put in front of a client. Thought leadership can live on the same site. But the table stakes for website succes is a usable product page or a tool that works.

Manager-built portfolio construction tools get uneven use. Advisors who do use them tend to care about the same few jobs: upload a book, compare models, run a stress test, and export something client-ready. Features that sit farther from those jobs, including thin alts-allocation widgets and downloadable proposal kits, get less attention. A long feature list without a strong upload-and-analyze path is a common miss.

**Where the build usually breaks**

Advisors who keep coming back treat these portals as working resources. They check in on a monthly or quarterly rhythm when the material stays current. When it goes stale, use drops without a dramatic complaint.  For that reason, an asset manager needs to stay focused on an online tool to keep it operational and effective.

How the engagement starts matters too. Many advisors still want a short goals conversation before they push a model into a portal. Opening with a digital upload alone is the less common path. The tool works better when a (human) specialist or wholesaler is available after the online step.

Alternatives show the same pattern on education. Advisors still say manager materials on alts often fall short. What they ask for is plain: strategy-specific content, a simple way to show portfolio impact, and client-ready pieces they can hand over. A microsite or course library only helps if those three things are easy to find and use.

**What lean teams should prioritize**

Keep the fact sheets and strategy pages fast and obvious. Pick one self-service job and do it well before you expand the tool menu. For harder products, especially alts, create short client-compliant pieces that present a clear impact view if you can support it. Name the path for the advisor to connect with a human operator so a wholesaler or portfolio specialist can pick up the thread.

You already pay for the site stack. The work is making it finish advisor tasks that support ticket drop, then keeping it current on the cadence advisors actually return. Demand Ignition helps lean distribution teams get more from the data and tools they already own. **Key takeaways**

- Advisors rate manager websites on whether they can finish real work, not on how polished the brand story looks.
- Self-service tools get used when they support upload, compare, stress testing, and client-ready output, with a clear path to a person afterward.
- Alts education still needs strategy-specific, client-ready material and simple impact tools more than another static microsite.
